Wage increases to be studied by regional boards

CURRENT WAGE HIKE petitions appear to be too high but adjustments will be considered and could be ordered later this year, a Cabinet official yesterday said.

“If we are to be very technical about it and base the increase on the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) target [inflation] rate of between 3-5%, it (an increase) would be equivalent to P13 to P21,” Labor Secretary Rosalinda D. Baldoz said.

Ms. Baldoz, who was reacting to the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines’ (TUCP) petition for a P90 per day wage hike in Metro Manila, clarified though that “there are other socioeconomic factors that will be considered”.
