P100-M contract awarded

THE TRANSPORTATION department has awarded to Jorgman Planning and Development Corp. a contract worth more than P100-million involving the replacement of anchor bolts for the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1), a notice published yesterday showed.

The agency on Sept. 17 issued a notice of award to Jorgman Planning after it bid P104.75 million for the P150-million project according to the notice in the Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System

The project, which is the systematic replacement of gantry anchor bolts for LRT-1 is the second of a five-pronged project for the rehabilitation of LRT-1 amounting to P1.062 million.

The project was offered in January while bidding took place in March.

Project 1, which is a P381-million rail replacement project and Project 3, which is the P184 million procurement of modified bogie frames (chassis), are still in the post-bidding evaluation.

Meanwhile, Project 4 and Project 5A and 5B will be rebidded out by the government following a failure of bidding due to legal and patent issues, earlier reports showed.

Project 4, worth P150 million, is the rehabilitation of 21 dilapidated units (coaches) while Project 5A and P5B is the restoration of Second Generation (2G) and Third Generation (3G) light rail vehicles, with a combined amount of P197 million.

The rehabilitation of LRT-1 is part of P72-billion stimulus package pledged by the government in October last year in an attempt to boost economic growth.

Of this figure, P6.5 billion has been allocated for the rehabilitation of the LRT-1 and LRT-2 and the purchase of new coaches for the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3).

The 20.7-kilometer LRT-1 runs from Baclaran in Pasay to Roosevelt station in QC, while the 13.8-km LRT-2 runs from Santolan in Pasig to Recto station in Manila. The 16.95-km MRT-3 runs along EDSA from North Ave. in Quezon City to Taft Ave. in Manila.
