A SENATE bill was filed yesterday that seeks to create a body that will develop the design industry as an engine for growth.
Senator Teofisto “TG” L. Guingona III, in a privilege speech, said he has filed Senate Bill 2930 that will set up the Design Council of the Philippines to “provide opportunities to showcase Filipino talent.”
The council, according to the bill, will develop the design industry as a contributor to growth by providing employment and trade. The council will be headed by the Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry. Council members include two representatives from the design academe, and from the fields of visual communications, information design, new media and technology, fashion design, industrial design and environmental design.
