Intl passenger traffic flow up by 9.7% in 2011

Fueled by cheap air fares, international passenger traffic flow to the Philippines rose by 9.7 percent in 2011.

Data released by the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) showed that international passenger traffic from January to December last year increased to 15,668,046 from 14,283,105 in the same period a year ago.

Of the total, the number of incoming passengers was up by 9.5 percent from 7,065,927 to 7,737,327. The number of outgoing passengers also went up from 7,217,178 to 7,930,719, or by 9.9 percent.

Philippine Airlines (PAL) registered the highest number of international passenger flown with 3,905,728 last year.

PAL’s incoming passenger traffic stood at 1,928,999, while outgoing passenger traffic reached 1,976,729.

Cebu Pacific registered 2,462,574 total passenger count. Of the total, the number of incoming passengers stood at 1,209,000 and outgoing at 1,253,574.

Local airlines Zest Airways flew 223,010 international passengers, Seair 210,670 and Airphil Express 151,051.

CAB cited passenger traffic of foreign airlines with Philippine operations. Cathay Pacific carried 1,377,184 passengers, Delta/Northwest Airlines, 364,101; Singapore Airlines, 640,835; Korean Air, 565,617; Emirates Air, 556,406; Japan Airlines, 229,390; Thai Airways, 222,021; China Airlines, 263,413; Qatar Airways, 444,901; Asiana Airlines, 536,326; Etihad Airways 464,856; Gulf Air, 248,882; Jetstar Asia Airways, 261,690; and Saudi Arabian Airlines, 332,634.
