MAP Pushes for a Country Brand for PHL

This is a re-posted statement.

MAP STATEMENT OF THE WEEK
26 September 2011

The MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION OF THE PHILIPPINES (MAP) has created a MAP National Branding Committee, to be chaired by MAP CSR Committee Chair and EON The Stakeholder Relations Firm CEO Junie del Mundo.

The MAP National Branding Committee will work with the government (through the Office of Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa Jr.) and the private sector to establish a NATIONAL BRANDING COUNCIL that will be tasked to create long-term vision and strategies to improve the country’s image in the international community. To achieve this, the NATIONAL BRANDING COUNCIL will execute comprehensive national branding policies and coordinate government and private sector efforts to raise standards in terms of how we showcase our strength in trade, investment, export, international policy, internal affairs and tourism.

Earlier, MAP proposed to President Aquino the establishment of a NATIONAL BRANDING COUNCIL to develop the Philippine country brand, as what South Korea, India,Thailand and other successful nations have done.

With a strong country brand, the Philippines will gain the respect and acceptance of the international community, thereby improving how the country is performing in trade and tourism.

MAP believes that a positive country brand will enhance nationhood and strengthen national pride; improve international credibility; serve as a shield from possible reputational risks; increase the value of domestic products, services and destinations; and lead to higher and more sustainable growth for local business and enterprise.

MAP has also proposed earlier to the Office of the President the adoption of “MABUHAY PHILIPPINES” as the country brand of the Philippines.
