The Joint Foreign Chambers of the Philippines (JFC) commends the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) for the swift issuance of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Konektadong Pinoy Act (Republic Act No. 12234). The JFC welcomes this development as a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to expanding digital connectivity and promoting greater inclusion across the country.
The timely implementation of the Konektadong Pinoy Act will play a crucial role in accelerating broadband infrastructure rollout, expanding access to high-speed internet, and enhancing competition among service providers. By enabling more investment, it will help deliver more affordable, reliable, and faster internet services, particularly to underserved and remote communities.
“The Konektadong Pinoy Act is a landmark measure for digital inclusion, and the JFC has been a strong advocate for its enactment since it was first filed in the 17th Congress,” stated Steve Winkates, the Arangkada Project Director on behalf of the JFC. “Its passage and early implementation mark a major step forward in modernizing the digital landscape in the Philippines and bridging the connectivity divide between urban and rural areas. For millions of Filipinos, this will mean better access to things such as online education, digital health services, e-commerce, and many other opportunities.”
The JFC looks forward to continuing the strong collaboration with DICT and other stakeholders to support the effective implementation of the Act and advance the country’s digital transformation agenda, in addition to working with the government on other reforms to further unlock investment opportunities, improve the overall investment climate, and reduce barriers to doing business.
The Joint Foreign Chambers (JFC) is a coalition of the American, Canadian, European, Japanese, and Korean chambers, as well as the Philippine Association of Multinational Companies Regional Headquarters, Incorporated. Arangkada Philippines is the major advocacy project of the Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce that supports and promotes open international trade, increased foreign investment, and improved conditions for business to benefit both the Philippines and the countries the JFC members represent.
