SMC gets notice of award for Bulacan international airport
San Miguel Holdings Corp. (SMHC) received late Wednesday the notice of award for the P734-billion New Manila International Airport (Bulacan International Airport) deal, according to a senior government official.
Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary for Planning and Project Implementation Ruben S. Reinoso Jr. said with the issuance of the notice of award, the company must “submit the necessary documents” to the agency’s special bids and awards committee within 20 days.
These include: a written conformity, the performance security of one percent of the first implementation phase cost, and proof of financial underwriting and capacity.
After finding these requirements complete, the transport agency may then issue the notice to proceed to SMHC, so it could start construction.
“Finally, we can push forward with the Bulacan International Airport. This will provide greater convenience and comfort to the people of Central and Northern Luzon, as well as those in Metro Manila. Once operational, this new airport will give connectivity options to our citizens,” Reinoso said.
With the issuance of the award notice, the Ramon S. Ang-led company will undertake the financing, design, construction, supply, completion, testing, commissioning, and operation and maintenance of the new international gateway.
San Miguel Corp. (SMC) tapped the services of Groupe ADPI, Meinhardt Group, Jacobs—three companies that worked to develop the Singapore Changi Airport—to create a “future-ready airport” that may replace the ageing Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia).
