The ranking of the Philippines has improved  from 82nd in 2013 to 74th in the latest World Economic Forum (WEF) Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report 2015.

It ranked even lower at 94th in the WEF report in 2011.

Within Asia-Pacific, the Philippines ranked 14th out of the 23 countries.

Japan ranked ninth, Singapore 11th, Hong Kong 13th, New Zealand 16th, China 17th, Malaysia 25th, South Korea 29th, Taiwan 32nd, Indonesia 50th and India 52nd.

In terms of business environment, the Philippines got a score of 4.54;  Singapore got 6.13 and Myanmar scored 3.2.

In terms of safety and security, the Philippines got a 3.84 against Singapore’s 6.4 and Pakistan’s 3.04.

In terms of health and hygiene, the Philippines got a 4.79 score versus Singapore’s 5.44 and Cambodia’s 3.92.

In terms of human resources and labor market, the Philippines got a score of 4.59 against Singapore’s 5.49 and Pakistan’s 3.07.

In terms of information and communications technology (ICT), the Philippines scored 3.71 versus Singapore’s 5.98 and Myanmar’s 1.6.

No literature was available on the Philippines, but Indonesia was said to have reported 8.8 million international visitors last year.

It was ranked 50th and among the closest “competitor” in Southeast Asia.

Its strong points were price competitiveness, rich natural resources and biodiversity and preserved heritage sites.

In terms of prioritization of travel and tourism, the Philippines got a score of 5.26, compared to Indonesia’s 5.61 and Bangladesh’s 3.19.

In terms of air transport infrastructure, the Philippines scored 2.77 versus Singapore’s 5.26 and Cambodia’s 2.1.
